dPS - The Light Of Dawn

My [late] entry for the dPS Light of Dawn challenge.

Week 1 - Selfie

Week 1's selfie I had a hard time with; I'm not a fan of having myself photographed, especially not online. So I decided to apply a little artistic license and improve upon the previous "perfect" selfie I took wearing a sweatshirt backwards.

Week 2 - Traditional Landscape

This was kind of a pain to accomplish. Outside of downtown Detroit, the area isn't known for many high vantage points. I really didn't want to get a shot of the Detroit river or the Detroit skyline (I have my reasons). After spending a couple days trying to find a good spot I was getting frustrated. Driving around Saturday with my wife trying to accomplish the challenge, she suggested I pull over near a power station and I managed to get this shot. I'm really happy with the result and I'm definitely going to prioritize a wide angle lens soon. I didn't have my QX1 with us and had to use hers with the 16mm e-mount lens to get this shot. Mine wasn't doing great with the kit 18-135mm.

Week 3 - Artistic/Red

There is a fire hydrant by my house that I've always wanted to take photos of for some reason. This week's challenge was finding something inspiring in red. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to get a good shot.

Week 7 - Portrait/No Faces

I cheated a little on this challenge. The challenge was to tell someone's story without showing their face. When my good friends asked to shoot their baby announcement I couldn't pass up the opportunity to complete this challenge in the process. I took the photos as part of the main annoucement shoot and was thrilled with the results. I may have done the challenge early, but the result was superb.

dPS - Heavy

To showcase "Heavy" for the dPS weekly challenge I went with some custom castings used on printing presses. I spent well over two hours in a shop that builds custom printing presses and this was by far the most intersting and compelling shot I got during the shoot.

Fixing the hair

A Juggalette fixing her hair prior to a photo shoot to complete week 4 of the Dogwood 2016 photo challenge. The shot turned out to be better than the posed shots taken as the main set.

Amphitheater

A B&W landscape shot of the amphitheater at the park. The B&W adds an extra layer of bleakness that's present during the winter warm spells.

dPS - Shiny

To showcase "Shiny" for a dPS weekly challenge I shot an artificial foot by College Park Industries. This is the Trooper model designed for children who are missing a foot.

dPS - Warm Fuzzies

This is a great shot of Smokey relaxing in her warm and fuzzy cat bed. The blue is her cat toy she's using as a pillow.

Week 6 - Candy

This week I wanted to create something different using candy I love. Initially I had planned on doing something with Nerds because I'm a nerd. The more I thought about it though, the more I realized I wanted to do something more creative. One look at the flowering cactus at home and I was off in another direction.

Timeless Memories

Week 8 - Warehouse Panorama

This week I wanted to capture the esscence of a warehouse where I rent office space. It's about 180 degrees of view from a point along the side wall of the buiding.

My Dearest

This week's challenge was "Shadow". I've been doing a lot of writing at night lately and went for it. There is nothing like writing by candle light for relaxation. Hopefully my dearest appreciates this letter.

Natural Habitat

For a week at work they've been running fiber lines next to the sidwalk. This shot is of the work crew doing some finish work near one of the endpoints of the fiber run.

Rush Hour

There is a pedestrian crossing over a major freeway in the area. I managed to be nearby during rush hour and felt this did a great job of capturing the transportation theme of the challenge.

Suburban Sun Set

The sun setting over suburban America.

Round and Round

Circles are everywhere but some are buried in hidden places.

Your World Reflected

The reflection in this window is always a great set of trees. When the challenge was reflections, I couldn't resist.

Home of Chrysler

I've driven past this building too many times to count. Perfect for taking care of the transportation challenge.

Portrait

This week's challenge was exposing a portrait to the right. I couldn't resist shooting Houdini and it turned out great.

Humble Vegtable

The humble vegtable doesn't get enough focus most days.
